LAKE, a dance exhibition with Les Ballets de Monte Carlos, is running from at the Auditorio del Estado on Oct. 13.
In collaboration with the writer Jean Rouaud, Jean-Christophe Maillot returns to the torments of a story that is inspired by our childhood fears and our night terrors. These buried experiences are here exhumed and associated with a Machiavellian family context that supports a chiaroscuro ballet.
The passage from the animal to the human state questions our own nature. We believe we are different from animals by our ability to make choices. But are we only able? Are we not really as far astray as this Prince? Jean-Christophe Maillot shows us hesitating between white and black, good and evil, candor and eroticism. Perhaps our humanity is finally resting on this rude insatiability that defines us since our first cry - We want everything!
