Twelfth Night & As You Like It at University of Minnesota Twin Cities

The University of Minnesota/Guthrie Theater BFA Actor Training Program class of 2020 presents two Shakespearean comedies running in repertory.

"All the world's a stage," declares Jacques in Shakespeare's delightful pastoral comedy As You Like It, "and all the men and women merely players." Come play with us as Rosalind, Orlando, Celia, and the clown Touchstone journey into the Forest of Arden for adventures both romantic and ridiculous. Disguises and mistaken identities abound as shepherdesses, nobility, and a host of irresistible characters fall in and out of love. What better way to welcome spring! Directed by Ivey Award-winning actor and director Craig Johnson (BA 1982), the show features the sophomore BFA class in the Stoll Thrust Theatre.

Twelfth Night, by William Shakespeare, is a beautiful story of loss and renewal, filled with the delightful chaos of mistaken identity, and unrequited love. Viola and her twin brother Sebastian are separated after a shipwreck, each believing the other to be lost in the storm. Viola disguises herself as a boy to survive as a servant of the Duke Orsino. She is set the task to woo the lady Olivia is her master’s stead even as she herself falls in love with Orsino. While at the same time, Olivia begins to fall in love with the disguised Viola. How will these crossed lovers ever come to a happy conclusion?
