Christmas (Back) Together with Steven C, returns Thursday, Dec. 15, 2022, at 7:30 p.m. This popular Christmas concert will open the doors to the historic Cathedral of Saint Paul for a free concert for the community after a two-year hiatus due to the pandemic. There is no admission fee, but a $10 freewill donation will be gratefully received to cover costs. Register on EVENTBRITE.
Multi--platinum recording artist and contemporary pianist Steven C. Anderson will be joined by vocalists Jack Cassidy, Jillian Gubash & Friends, plus Nate Wilson on violin. Internationally-award-winning improvisational organist Chris Ganza will roll out the Great Cathedral Pipe Organ console and set it nose-to-nose with Steven C's 9-foot grand Bösendorfer for a few musical numbers. And a surprise guest will be reading the Christmas Story to musical accompaniment.
"These concerts are really my way of giving back to the community. Christmas is a time to be together - come alone, come with friends, and we will all be together for this one night to enjoy the message of the season-- to spread hope and love."
Background on how this tradition started
Returning to center stage will be Anderson’s luxurious 9-foot grand Bösendorfer (“Bosie”) piano. This piano has four more bass keys (92) than a traditional keyboard, adding depth and richness to the sound. The sustained tone of Bosie also sets it apart. Piano aficionados characterize it as “the tone that sings forever.” Anderson recorded two of his popular albums, Christmas Together and Emotive, on his “Bosie” inside the Cathedral, and his most popular single, Daybreak, streamed more than 18 million times.
In 2015, Anderson planned the initial Christmas Together concert as a “thank you” to the Cathedral parish for allowing him to bring his piano into the Cathedral for his project, and as a Christmas gift to the community-at-large. The event which began as a singular concert proved to be overwhelmingly popular, growing into a treasured holiday tradition. Drawing an audience of nearly 2,000 each year, the concert provides an opportunity to experience an evening of community and beloved music within the grand space of the Cathedral.
