Hopkins Royal Productions Presents “Chicago – High School Edition”
Hopkins Royal Productions is pleased to announce the fall 2023 production of “Chicago: High School Edition.” Performances will take place at Hopkins High School’s main auditorium on November 10, 11, 16*, 17 & 18 at 7:30pm.
Chicago: High School Edition is a specially adapted version of the classic musical that maintains the plot, score and styled dance choreography, and has been adapted so that high school audience members and the community can attend this lively and intriguing spectacle.
Taken from the play that was inspired by two real women’s stories, Chicago is set in the Roaring Twenties and features aspiring chorus girl Roxie Hart and fading vaudeville star Velma Kelly as they each face trial for murder. The two desperate women actively vie against one another for the services of shady lawyer Billy Flynn, who promises to make them media celebrities and win them acquittals as they compete for favor in the court of law and the public eye all while entertaining the audience.
This production will feature a cast of 26, with as many as 30 students serving in technical and production support. Our community of Hopkins students all serve in various roles - as actors, dancers, stage managers, production, technical crew, as well as a show orchestra which will feature 24 musicians onstage alongside the cast. Together, they share their creativity, passion, talents, and skills to make this theatrical production one that you won’t want to miss.
Chicago will be directed by Hopkins Royal Productions’ newest theater director, Farrah Buffington, who comes from a performing arts & professional theatrical background as well as working as a coach for 18 years. She has previously worked with Mound-Westonka and Columbia Heights High Schools and DeLaSalle High School where she was a co-theatre program director for the last 12 years. “This is my first show at Hopkins and I can't be more excited. This is one of the most talented groups of students I’ve had the pleasure to work with. You are going to be amazed at what the cast and tech crew have accomplished”, said director, Farrah Buffington.
This is an adapted production that includes some adult themes including incarceration, murder and violence.
