The American Alliance for Theatre & Education's 31st annual National Conference: Rise Up! will be held in Minneapolis, Minnesota, August 1-5, 2018, exploring what it means to use art and activism to make positive change in our communities.
The five day conference will celebrate the work and the future possibilities of the AATE community with two reflective pre-conference opportunities, two dynamic keynote speakers, five master class opportunities facilitated by artists and change-makers from across the field, six excursions including tours and performances at the Guthrie Theater, as well as 100 sessions by presenters from across the country suited for a variety of arts educators, including PreK-8, High School, College/University/Research, Advocacy, Applied Theatre, Playwriting, Professional Theatre, and Youth Theatre.
AATE has also partnered with Minnesota Fringe, an arts service organization with programs that include the 25th Annual Minnesota Fringe Festival and the inaugural Family Fringe - both taking place during the 2018 AATE Conference. The Fringe Festival includes 133 works from producers across the artistic spectrum in a variety of genres. Family Fringe showcases 6 curated shows geared towards young people ages 8-13. Together the festivals promise nearly 700 performances in 11 days.
AATE attracts three distinct audiences - artists, scholars, and educators - sparking dialogue across specializations. This allows for the exchange of ideas, sharing, and networking across the theatre community. AATE's largest networking opportunity is its annual national conference, where theatre-specific artists and educators exchange expertise in an atmosphere of fun, warmth, and professionalism.
