SteppingStone Theatre is pleased to present a new production of Stone Soup Feeds the World. When three strangers arrive in a town that has been ravaged by war and famine, they start to cook a pot of stone soup. The townsfolk are wary and suspicious of the strangers and of each other, but one carrot at a time, they come around to trust the newcomers. When the soup is ready and everyone shares in the feast, the town is brought back together, and the strangers have mysteriously disappeared.

The production has been re-imagined, with new energy and visual punch, and with all new music by Dane Stauffer. First mounted in March of 2005, to critical and audience acclaim, Dane Stauffer has energized his original lyrics with lively new music. Audience members will resonate with the familiar story, presented in a fresh new way.

The production, much of which is in rhyme, is based on the stone soup stories that appear in cultures worldwide. Taking this far-flung theme of sharing food, Stauffer examined the two threads that run through these cross-cultural stories, that of tricksters creating havoc through acquiring
food through nefarious means, and the theme of sharing resources to build community and trust within a fractured group of people.

Stauffer says, ³I love to create plays that I think will make people debate over ideas and actions. In this case, the ideas are about helping others, building community, the realities of war and poverty, learning to overcome personal habits and devoting yourself to something greater.²

SteppingStone Theatre is taking the show¹s theme of building community and sharing food, and turning it into concrete action. They will be partnering with Second Harvest Heartland on a food drive to take place during the run of Stone Soup Feeds the World. Audience members are encouraged to bring a non-perishable food item to the theatre. SteppingStone Theatre will collect
the food and deliver it.

Presented with great energy and skill by the professionally auditioned and trained young actors of SteppingStone Theater, Stone Soup Feeds the World is a production sure to delight young and old alike.
