Stages Theatre Company (STC) will present the world premiere adaptation of Mark Twain's "Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" which opens Oct. 12 in the Hopkins Jaycees Studio located in the Hopkins Center for the Arts.

"Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" directed by Markell Kiefer is known as one of America's greatest novels, published in 1885 and is a powerful story that embodies the search for freedom. Huck Finn's companion Jim, a runaway slave, provides friendship and protection while the two journey along the Mississippi River.

Bruce Rowan, STC's Manager of New Play Development, wrote the script. "Audiences can expect a Huckleberry Finn different from what they've seen in the past: the focus is more on Huck's growing, evolving sense of right and wrong, and less on the external forces that swirl around him."

The story offers a deeper meaning and message which sets the tone for the production. "Huck's relationships with Tom, Jim, and the children of the feuding Grangerfords help him to realize that conscience shouldn't necessarily always be your guide. Sometimes a good heart is the more important thing," says Rowan.

"Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" opens Oct. 12 and ends Nov. 4, with a run time of 70 minutes and is suitable for ages 8 and up. Tickets can be purchased by visiting www.stagestheatre.org for performance dates and times, or by calling the Box Office at (952) 979-1111, Tuesday through Saturday from noon to 6 p.m. Tickets are $15 for adults, and $12 for children (ages 5 to 17) and seniors (60+).
