"Few young artists are as versatile as the four gentlemen of Brooklyn Rider... veterans of Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road project as well as expert advocates for the classical repertory." - The New Yorker
"[2 Foot Yard] melds classical virtuosity, folk soul, and pop imagination." - Billboard
The genre-bending New York string quartet Brooklyn Rider, whose players traveled the world with Yo-Yo Ma's Silk Road Project, illuminates music through adventurous repertoire, exploring new sound worlds with fresh insight and unusual collaborations. They are joined by the bold and hard-grooving 2 Foot Yard, a trio that merges the visceral power of rock with the intimacy of chamber music. The two ensembles perform separately and then together for a new jointly written composition.
Also performing with Brooklyn Rider is accomplished shakuhachi (Japanese bamboo flute) player Kojiro Umezaki, whose diverse career encompasses both traditional and technology-based music. Umezaki performs regularly with Yo Yo Ma's Silk Road Ensemble and the Montreal-based jazz trio Beat in Fractions.
