In this chamber opera for two singers and string quartet by composer Laura Kaminsky, librettist Mark Campbell and librettist/filmmaker Kimberly Reed, a mezzo-soprano and a baritone depict the experiences of its sole transgender protagonist, Hannah, as she endeavors to resolve the discord between her self and the outside world.

As One is a chamber opera in which two voices-Hannah after (mezzo-soprano) and Hannah before (baritone)-share the part of a sole transgender protagonist. Fifteen songs comprise the three-part narrative; with empathy and humor, they trace Hannah's experiences from her youth in a small town to her college years on the West Coast, and finally to Norway where she is surprised at what she learns about herself.

Skylark Opera Theatre offers new and traditional repertoire performed with a modernized perspective in site-specific and cutting-edge venues. Originally founded in 1980, the organization adopted the name Skylark Opera in 2006, and transformed to Skylark Opera Theatre in 2016 when Robert Neu was named Artistic Director. With a reimagined focus on innovative, intimate and accessible opera, Skylark Opera Theatre staged critically acclaimed productions of The Tragedy of Carmen and Don Giovanni in 2017. Skylark is based in the Twin Cities of St. Paul and Minneapolis, MN.
