Reel to Real Free Film Series – from Movies to Musicals Held At Downtown Minneapolis Library 1/3/2010

In advance of Dreamgirls coming to the Orpheum on January 12-17, The Reel to Real film series continues with the movie version (2006, Dreamworks) based on the Tony Award-winning Broadway musical. It features a trio of black female soul singers going from just a group with talent to being a crossover hit on the pop charts in the early 60s. The friendship of the three girls from Chicago is put to the test when they are faced with the pressure of money, fame and adulation. 131 min. Rated PG-13.

An exploration of films that have inspired the plays and musicals of Hennepin Theatre Trust's current Broadway season. Admission is free with open seating to the public. Doors open 30 minutes prior to the start of the program at 1:30 PM. Programs are held at the Central Library, 300 Nicollet Mall, Minneapolis.
