Theatre in the Round Players presents the area premiere of THE BURIAL AT THEBES by Seamus Heaney which runs thru March 7.
Theatre in the Round Players (TRP) presents the area premiere of The Burial at Thebes in weekend performances February 12 through March 7.
Irish poet and Nobel Prize-winning author Seamus Heaney wrote this outstanding new adaptation of the Greek tragedy Antigone. When Creon the King refuses to bury her traitorous brother, Antigone defies him and takes the law into her own hands. This short but powerful staging features a striking version of a wise Chorus, and vivid, poetic writing. VARIETY wrote: "The true star is Heaney's concise, accessible and lyrical translation, which speaks clearly to modern audiences without sacrificing the play's classic grace."
Rob Goudy directs a cast of ten featuring Julie Kurtz as Antigone and Seth Patterson as Creon. Sets are designed by Amber WR Miller, costumes by K. Sheree Mason, and lighting by Nicole Fierce.
A discussion with director Goudy and members of the company will follow the matinee performance on Sunday, February 28th.
Tickets are $20, with discounts for seniors and a student price of $10 on Fridays and Sundays. For information, call the theatre's box office at 612-333-3010 or visit its website at www.TheatreintheRound.org.
