Nora (Sarah Agnew, The Home Place, Major Barbara) seems to have it all: a successful husband, three adorable children and a beautiful home in Lincoln Park. What looks like the picture perfect life, outfitted in the latest from Pottery Barn, is actually a complicated trap of secrets and lies, from which there is no easy bailout. Using Henrik Ibsen's masterpiece A Doll's House as a springboard, award-winning playwright Rebecca Gilman has crafted a bold and insightful adaptation that transports Ibsen's classic into 21st century suburbia. With a happily-ever-after ending that is audacious today as Ibsen's original was over a century ago, Gilman's Dollhouse raises questions about women and financial independence, marriage and motherhood, and how keeping up with the Joneses may be setting us behind.
