Freshwater Theatre returns to the Crane Theater with an original comedy by local playwright and Freshwater Co-Artistic Director Ruth Virkus: Preferred by Discreet Women Everywhere!

Join us for three one-act plays that invite audiences into the most public, yet intimate, of settings: a women's restroom. Poignant and hilarious, Preferred by Discreet Women Everywhere takes place in a single evening in the posh restroom of an upscale Minneapolis bistro- a place where people celebrate life's big moments, and encounter various crossroads in their lives - moments of celebration, distress, and transition. Sometimes, all three.

The production marks the first time all three acts of this play cycle will be performed together in their entirety!

Playwright Ruth Virkus is Co-A.D. of Freshwater Theatre, and an accomplished playwright whose works have been performed by Freshwater Theatre, 20% Theatre Company, St. Paul College, and the History Theatre, among others. She is also co-creator of the Tyme book series with author Megan Morrison, published by Scholastic books. The third, Transformed, will be released in spring of 2019. The show will be directed by Nicole Wilder, an MFA in directing from Miami University who has been making all kinds of art here in the Twin Cities with theatre companies like 20% Theater Company, and Theatre Unbound, as well as bands like Spencer McGillicuddy, Fred Savage and the Unbeatables, and Daisy & Hubert. She will be joined by assistant director Shae Palic, a Guthrie BFA graduate recently seen onstage in Titus Andronicus with The BAND Group at the Minnesota Fringe, and at the Guthrie Theater, Park Square Theatre and Public Theatre of Minnesota, among others.

Featuring: Rachel Postle, Victoria Pyan, Lacey Anne Zeiler, Winifred Froelich, Mame Pelletier, Tinne Rosenmeier, Shae Palic, and Aidan Jhane Gallivan. Stage managed by Megen Ealain, set by Ursula K. Bowden, lights by Ariel Leaf, sound by Katie Korpi, and costumes by Emma Kravig.

Running in rep, Freshwater Theatre will present the next installment in our award winning short play festival series: The Feminine Surcharge. We are bringing together local female-identifying actors, storytellers, and musicians to share their experiences with the various financial burdens of being femme. Anything from the "Tampon Tax" to elective surgery is fair game. We are still in the process of accepting submissions and selecting the artists who will be part of this exciting project - more details to come soon!

Founded by the husband and wife duo of Ruth Virkus and Ben Layne, Freshwater Theatre was born from a love of Twin Cities theatre and a passion to promote this brave and unique theatre community. We at Freshwater Theatre Company believe that art comes from a place. And we believe, unapologetically, that our place is one of the very best. We exist not only to create our own theater, but to facilitate and promote a vision of the Twin Cities as a major exporter of performing arts, producing and promoting quality work from the Midwest, with an eye not only on producing new work, but giving plays of merit new life beyond one world premiere. Freshwater Theatre ...come on in, the water's fine.
