Ordway Center for the Performing Arts is seeking nominations for the 2012 Sally Ordway Irvine Awards. These prestigious awards, now in their 21st year, provide an opportunity to recognize and honor extraordinary achievements in the arts throughout Minnesota.
“The Sally Awards have become one of the great annual traditions in the Minnesota arts community,” said Patricia A. Mitchell, Ordway president and CEO. “We are fortunate to live in a state in which artistic achievements flourish in all corners of the state. Our Sally Awards selection committee relies on the input provided by individuals from throughout Minnesota who wish to nominate one of their favorite artists, administrators and advocates for these awards.”
Each year, one person or organization receives an award in each of the following categories: Arts Access, Education, Commitment, Vision, and Initiative. Last year’s winners were Rick Jacobson (Arts Access), Ross Sutter (Education), Kevin Smith (Commitment), Vision (Ta-Coumba T. Aiken), and Initiative (TU Dance).
Nominations for the 2012 awards are being accepted through November 12, 2012. Individuals and organizations from any artistic or cultural field are eligible, as long as their work took place in Minnesota. Nominees may be artists, professional administrators, volunteers or philanthropists.
After all entries have been received, a selection committee reviews the nominations and selects the five award winners, who will be honored at the Sally Awards ceremony at the Ordway on April 8, 2013.
Nomination forms and additional information are available online at www.ordway.org/sallyawards
The Sally Awards are funded, in part, by the Minnesota State Arts Board through the arts and cultural heritage fund as appropriated by the Minnesota State Legislature with funds from the Legacy Amendment. The Ordway also wishes to acknowledge Minnesota Public Radio for its long-standing support of these awards.
