In response to the demand from last year's production, NewBridge Theatre has received a highly competitive Arts Activities Grant in the full amount of $10,000 from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council. This grant will allow NewBridge to add 12 more shows of Christmas Carol To their season which will include 14 professional core actors from the Company and between 6-11 young emerging local youth actors through double casting, a "pay-what-you-can performance", and discount tickets will be available to those who bring in a non-perishable food item or toy donation for Hastings Family Service.
"During the holidays many people want to share the spirit of giving and enjoy entertainment during their busy schedule. NewBridge Theatre Company's "pay-what-you-can performance" will enable those who may not normally have the financial means a chance to bring their family to live entertainment." says Tanner the Artistic Director.
Tanner, who is directing and wrote the adaptation of Dickens famous tale, has found a way to bring the show to the audience in a very intimate and personal level. "The audience who came last year was amazed by the proximity of the actors to the audience." says Thalia, a Company member who played Bell.
Auditions for the youth performers will take place on October 15th at 7pm. You do not need to prepare anything! We are looking for boys and girls ages 7-20 to fill various roles. All information about time commitment and dates will be available that evening at the audition. You do not need to sign up, simply show up at the theatre. 105 2nd St. E Hastings, MN 55033
"This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through grants from the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund."
NewBridge Theatre Company's purpose is to bring a unique element to every production, whether it be a musical comedy or a Shakespearean tragedy, that makes the shows and its characters more honest and more relatable to their audiences, by delving into the emotional realities of each role. With an intimate space that only seats up to 50 people and staging that is inches from the closest audience members, it is essential to Elizabeth Tanner and every member of this company that they not only put on productions that are entertaining and engaging, but also that they create characters that are powerfully honest and real.
Christmas Carol opens the day after Thanksgiving on November 29th and runs through December 22nd with many double performance days on Saturdays at its space located at 105 2nd st. E Hastings, MN 55033. Tickets range from $15-$25 and may be purchased online at www.newbridgetc.com or by calling 651-295-3224.
