NDPT Perform at Minnehaha Academy Part of World Tour, 11/5

The National Danish Performance Team (NDPT) arrives on the Twin Cities scene to perform their unique, highly acclaimed, extreme gymnastics show, "Connections." Twin Cities' audiences can experience NDPT in a rare performance at Minnehaha Academy's North Campus in Minneapolis on Friday, November 5.

This is performance gymnastics at its very finest and the Danes have been leaders in this field for nearly 100 years. NDPT presents a unique form of movement: traditional Danish gymnastics inspired by current dance trends, combined with artistic tumbling and acrobatics.

A powerful experience for all the senses, NDPT has been described as "gymnastics with an attitude." NDPT displays beautiful, rhythmic modern gymnastics that are both funky and expressive. "Connections" is a fun, family show chock-full of drama, humor and breakneck pacing. A highpoint of the production includes vaulting and tumbling exercises, which are daringly and courageously performed with coordination, strength, and balance.

The 28 gymnasts (14 men and 14 women, aged 18-28), are selected for both skill and character to share an unforgettable Danish experience with audiences around the world. "We have selected 28 of the most talented gymnasts and they are ready with a spectacular show," said Johannes Bjerre, the show's general manager. "The audience is in for an innovative performance of very high quality."

NDPT was created with Queen Margrethe II's blessing in 1993 to showcase Denmark's finest gymnasts. The Queen continues to serve as their Patroness today. The gymnasts participate on a voluntary basis travelling the world in the spirit of giving and by honoring their country as ambassadors of Denmark. Since its inception in '93, NDPT has provided young gymnasts with unique opportunities to travel the world, visited more than 58 countries, and entertained more than 1.5 million people.

The NDPT's Twin Cities' visit is part of a 10-month world tour that began in Washington, D.C. on Oct. 9, 2010, when they appeared at Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. The USA tour portion takes the team through 15 states across the country performing at least 50 shows during their three-month visit. In addition to their performance schedule, the team offers workshops at schools, community centers, and workplaces, inspiring people of all ages that healthy living can also be fun. Twin Cities area workshops being conducted in cooperation with NDPT and the University of Minnesota's Gymnastics Program (led by Mike Burns), are currently being arranged to take place at Minnehaha Acedemy and Eagan High School.

As advocates of healthy living, NDPT proudly spreads the message of The President's Council on Fitness, Sports & Nutrition, and First Lady Michelle Obama's "Lets Move" campaign to raise a healthier, more physically fit generation to combat childhood obesity.

There will be one performance of "Connections" performed on Friday, Nov. 5 at 7:00pm. Prices are $12 for adults and $8 for students. Children under age 5 are free. Tickets for NDPT's production of "Connections" are available for purchase at the door on the night of performance at Minnehaha Academy's North Campus gymnasium located at 3100 W. The US Tour is funded in part by Vestas (www.vestas.com) and presented in collaboration with The Danish Immigrant Museum (www.danishmuseum.org),dedicated to preserving and promoting Danish culture in America. "Danish Gymnastics in America," a travelling exhibit produced by the museum will accompany the tour and be displayed at performance venues. After three months in USA the world tour continues to Australia, Singapore, Japan and China. In the middle of March 2011 NDPT returns to Europe and spends 14 days in Scotland before the extensive Danish Tour is launched in early April.
