Minneapolis' Mixed Blood Theatre's touring production of Minnecanos will be performed at Lake of the Woods School Auditorium on Monday April 18, 2011 at 7PM. In this production, sponsored by Pequana Playhouse, an old man uses mementos collected over a lifetime and some lively corridos (story-songs) to awaken his great-grandson's interest in their shared Chicano history. What emerges from the stories and reconciliations among the generations is a touching and invigorating renewal of family and culture.

Minnecanos was written for Mixed Blood by Thomas Benitez and Joe Minjares, a successful restaurateur (Pepito's in south Minneapolis) before turning his talents to theatre. Mixed Blood has toured the show throughout the Midwest every year since 1994. This year's cast includes returning veterans Pedro Bayón as Diego and Ricardo Vazquez as Jimmy, the great-grandson. The show is again directed by Raúl Ramos. The show will be performed on Tuesday, April 19 for grades 7-12 of LOW school at a student assembly.

The show is one of five culturally-specific productions toured this season by Mixed Blood, a professional, multi-racial theatre company based in Minneapolis that promotes cultural pluralism and individual equality through artistic excellence. The others include Theory of Mind, about a young man on the autism spectrum; the Martin Luther King biography Dr. King's Dream; Daughters of Africa, a music- driven history of African American women; and African America, a look at the modern African diaspora in Minnesota.

Tickets for the performance will be available at the door for $5 person/ $20 family. For more information please contact Ann Patten at 218-395-0146 or annpatten@hotmail.com.
