Live Action Set's "Kill Bill Tréteau" is being described as "10 minutes of jam-packed energy and jaw-dropping ingenuity" as guests at the Final Ceremonies of CONvergence's annual gathering.

After their popular "Lord of the Rings in 9-Minutes," Live Action Set tackles the challenge of staging Kill Bill's two volumes of action-packed cinema on a platform no bigger than a door. In honor of CONvergence's 2012 theme of women warriors, Live Action Set pays homage to the revenge of the iconic bloody, blond bride. Noah Bremer, Joanna Harmon, Emily King, and Tyler Michaels perform the piece that was collaboratively created with director Ryan Underbakke.

The tréteau consists of a small, 3 ft by 6 ft platform on which typically no more than 7 actors perform a short, energy-filled piece based on the plot of a well-known movie, and without using props or set. Because the elements of rhythm, space, gesture, and text are dramatically condensed in the tréteau, performers and director are charged with the question, "How do we retain the feeling of dramatic largess on a physically much smaller scale?" The tréteau suggests the answer to that question is in the physical ability of the human body and the creative thought of the human mind. Director Ryan Underbakke reflects, "Of all of the theater techniques I have learned over the past decade and a half, I am most interested in the tréteau, because it reveals that the most creatively compelling work can be achieved without extraneous elements."

Live Action Set

Live Action Set is a non-profit, Minneapolis-based performance company whose artistic mission is to create visually poetic, wildly imaginative and intellectually accessible performance experiences that harness the indefinable power of the human spirit. Since its inception in 2003, LAS's performance style has centered on devised, ensemble-driven work that dissolves boundaries between artistic genres and draws on forms of “physical theater,” “classical theater” trainings, and dance. LAS prides itself on artistic excellence. Its productions have been widely hailed as "courageous", "beautiful," "daring," and have received numerous accolades, the most recent of which was a 2011 Ivey Awards for "Best Overall Production" in recognition of the creative ingenuity of The 7-Shot Symphony.

Live Action Set is led by Noah Bremer, artistic director, and Joanna Harmon, executive director. The creative team includes Ryan Underbakke as artistic associate, and an ensemble of more than two dozen Live Action Artists.
