Limited tickets remain for the Louis Sachar novel "Holes" opening April 15 at Stages Theatre Company (STC). Based on the 1999 Newbery Medal Winner, this production is for ages 8 and up, and is showcased in the Hopkins Jaycees Studio.
The story involves Stanley Yelnats who is convicted of a crime he didn't commit and is sent to Camp Green Lake to serve his sentence. Despite the name, the camp is a dry wasteland, and the boys are assigned to dig one deep hole each day.
Director Jon Ferguson describes the show as "playful, visually inventive and very atmospheric. There are moments that provoke thoughts of fate and destiny, and the universe having some plan for your life." Audiences can expect strong themes to be addressed throughout the production including bullying, placing blame and racism. "The play explores low-level bullying from adults to youth, and youth to each other, and youth to adults," says Ferguson.
According to Ferguson, the cast is strong ensemble of very talented teens and he hopes the audience will be provoked to think about race, heritage and discrimination.
