The Kennedy Center's national tour of Barrio Grrrl! will make a stop at Children's Theatre Company, between March 2 and March 27, 2011.

Written by two-time Pulitzer Prize finalist and Tony Award nominee Quiara Alegría Hudes (In the Heights), Barrio Grrrl! is the story of Ana and her tenacious sidekick Amazing Voice. A pop musical bursting with color and energy, Barrio Grrrl! celebrates Latino culture and music through the eyes of a spunky nine year-old girl and her alter ego, Barrio Grrrl!

Music for Barrio Grrrl! is by 2008 Tony- (Best Orchestrations for In the Heights) and Grammy Award-winning (Co-Producer for In the Heights original Broadway cast album) Bill Sherman. Directed by Peter Flynn and choreographed by Devanand Janki, Barrio Grrrl! stars Desiree Rodriguez as Ana and Michelle Liu Coughlin as The Amazing Voice.

Quiara Alegría Hudes' work for musical theatre includes the Tony Award-winning Best Musical for In the Heights. Her plays have included Elliot, A Soldier's Fugue and 26 Miles. She has been honored with the Lucille Lortel Award, the Outer Critics Circle Award, the Paula Vogel Award in Playwriting and the Clauder Prize. Originally trained as a musician, Hudes graduated from public school in Philadelphia and went on to receive a B.A. in music composition from Yale and an M.F.A. in playwriting from Brown.
