Summer brings a Pulitzer Prize-winning play to the stage with Gary Gisselman making his directorial debut at the Jungle. Hilarious and heartwarming, Kaufman and Hart's YOU CAN'T TAKE IT WITH YOU opens tonight, June 19 at the Jungle Theater, 2951 Lyndale Av. S. in Minneapolis, and runs through August 9.
This affectionate farce about family, love and what really matters in life boasts top-notch talent, including three real-life married couples: Angela Timberman and Jay Albright, Charity Jones and John Middleton, and Cathleen and Nathaniel Fuller. The all-star cast also features Raye Birk, Allen Hamilton, Hugh Kennedy, Wendy Lehr, Gabriel Murphy, Elisa Pluhar, Peter Lincoln Rusk, Anna Sundberg, Julia Valen and Max Wojtanowicz.
Long before TV's Modern Family, there were the Sycamores, three generations living under one roof on New York's Upper West Side, determined to follow their bliss. After daughter Alice (Anna Sundberg) accepts straight-laced Tony Kirby's (Hugh Kennedy) marriage proposal, she must introduce her fiancé's prim-and-proper parents to her rather more eccentric relatives. When the wildly different families meet, the worlds of the wealthy, uptight Kirbys and the off-kilter Sycamores collide. Universal and timeless, You Can't Take It With You is one of America's most beloved comedy classics.
In addition to Gisselman, the production's creative team includes Tom Butsch (set designer), Amelia Cheever (costume designer), Donald Darnutzer (lighting designer), Montana Johnson (sound designer) and John Stillwell (technical director).
