It's going to be a Technicolor holiday as the Ordway Center for the Performing Arts produces Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice's story of "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat." This beloved musical tale of jealous brothers and a fantastic coat of colors will be playing at the Ordway from December 7, 2010 - January 2, 2011 for 32 performances. The Ordway has cultivated a tremendous cast of local and nationally renowned actors for this production of "Joseph" including American Idol Finalist, Anthony Fedorov.
"I knew we wanted adults to be surprised by the show's humor, while maintaining a magical quality that would delight youngsters," says
James A. Rocco, the show's director and choreographer. "We wanted to mine the satirical targets that are so brilliantly crafted into the show by
Andrew Lloyd Webber and
Tim Rice, while keeping bright and colorful children's storybooks in mind."
James A. Rocco along with
Jayme McDaniel created a version of this beloved musical that embraces the playful and blissful spirit of the 1960s, while staying true to the original concept. Inspired by the famous artist
Peter Max, known for such works as "Yellow Submarine," this production of "Joseph" plays up a colorful environment to transform the adored musical into a truly Technicolor world. The show includes an energetic children's choir, consisting of 40 Twin Cities-area children, who participate in the action of the story.
Anthony Fedorov will be playing the title role of Joseph. Fedorov's portrayal of Joseph takes audiences on a journey through his transformation from innocent boy to a brave young man. Fedorov gained national recognition during his time on the popular reality show, "American Idol." He was a finalist in the fourth season of the show, which named
Carrie Underwood as its winner. Fedorov has since included musical theater in his resume, having played the role of Joseph in three previous productions across the United States. Joining him on the Ordway stage in this production are seasoned actors
T. Mychael Rambo,
Jennifer Paz and
Stewart Gregory.
"Joseph" is sure to delight the whole family with its surprising humor for adults and magical moments for children, making it the perfect holiday celebration for families. This Ordway production will enthrall audiences of all ages with its moving musical score and vibrant character portrayals. The show's climactic and touching conclusion leads into a magnificent celebration in the form of the "Joseph Megamix," in which the musical's major numbers combine to create an atmosphere reminiscent of a rock concert. Audience members are sure to be dancing in the aisles during this exuberant musical finale.
The renowned local pianist, Lori Dokken, will be providing holiday music in the lobby at every performance.
Post-show talkbacks will be held after the evening performances on December 8 and 15.
