Illusion Theater's 8th Annual Lights Up! series presents the ensemble that brought the critically-acclaimed, Ivey Award-winning Ballad of the Pale Fisherman to stage last year. From February 8-March 2, 2013, Transatlantic Love Affair returns with an expanded version of RED RESURRECTED, a 2011 top-selling Fringe Festival show. This year, they tackle the themes inherent in the Red Riding Hood fable in a dark and surprising re-imagining. Adding elements from Persephone of Greek mythology and La Loba of Mexican folklore, Red Resurrected conjures up a completely new tale of a young woman's journey through love, pain and healing.
Inspired by the landscape and traditional shape-note music of Appalachia, this disquieting deconstruction of a seemingly familiar story is by turns as mysterious and ominous as the forest it inhabits, and as equally stirring. At its heart, it tells of a young woman's departure from her community and her rite of passage that leads to sacrifice, redemption and the things lost and found along the way.
Red Resurrected is directed by Isabel Nelson, fresh from winning the 2012 Ivey's Emerging Artist Award. The talented Transatlantic Love Affair troupe includes Heather Bunch (Ensemble/Ms. Quinn), Willie Gambucci (Ensemble/Tommy Cooper), Diogo Lopes (Ensemble/Mr. Oak), Derek Lee Miller (Ensemble/Mr. Cooper), Adelin Phelps (Ensemble/Red), Anna Reichert (Ensemble/Narrator) and Allison Witham (Ensemble/Mrs. Cooper).
Tickets for Red Resurrected are $15-$20. Group discounts are available for groups of 10 or more people. Tickets are available at the Illusion Theater Box Office at 612-339-4944 or online at www.illusiontheater.org.
