Freshwater Theatre Company returns in 2015 with the world premiere of If You Don't Weaken, a new Jewish comedy by local playwright Jenna Zark.
Combining a pole dancer, crumbling synagogue, feisty friends, 1930s porn videos, a local Jewish day school, religious awakening...and a ghost, If You Don't Weaken centers on a young woman's quest to observe a year-long ritual of mourning for her grandfather.
Jenna Zark's work has recently been seen at Minnesota Jewish Theatre, with their production of The Chanukah Guest in December of 2014. If You Don't Weaken will be directed by company member Ariel Leaf who, in addition to her extensive acting credits, last directed Cromulent Shakespeare's well-received production of Troilus and Cressida in 2010. The cast includes a slew of Twin Cities favorites:Rebecca Gebhart, Tara Lucchino, Derek "Duck" Washington, Muriel Bonertz, Bill Studer and Charles Numrich. Stage managed by Alyssa Thompson, lights by Julia Carlis, set by Micah Maatman, props by Corinna Troth, and sound by Forest Godfrey.
As a companion piece, Freshwater Theatre will present a new anthology production: Recollection Collection, an evening of short plays focused on the theme of human memory. The 2013 anthology production Freshwater Theatre Goes Back to High School, won an Ivey Award for playwriting and included the release of our third printed compilation of scripts.
