Freshwater Theatre Presents A True Crime Tale, Told By The Victims Image

Freshwater Theatre proudly presents The Drowning Girls, a spellbinding original drama by Canadian playwrights Beth Graham, Daniela Vlaskalic and Charlie Tomlinson.

Bessie, Alice and Margaret have a few things in common: They are married to George Joseph Smith, and they are dead. Surfacing from the bathtubs they were drowned in, the three breathless brides gather evidence against their womanizing, murderous husband by reliving the shocking events leading up to their deaths. Reflecting on the misconceptions of love, married life, and the not-so-happily ever after, The Drowning Girls is both a breathtaking fantasia and a social critique, full of rich images, a myriad of characters, and lyrical language.

The show will be directed by Freshwater Co-Artistic Director Ben Layne. A B.A. in Theatre Performance from the University of Northern Iowa, Ben previously directed The Gifted Program and Pioneer Suite for Freshwater Theatre. Ben has also directed around the Twin Cities area for Fortune's Fool Theatre (most recently at the helm of their highly acclaimed production of The Skriker), The Phipps, Northern Starz Theatre, The Chameleon Theatre Circle, Special When Lit Theatre, and Devious Mechanics, among others.

Featuring:

Stage managed by Megen Ealain, set/props by Seán McArdle, lights by Ariel Leaf, sound by Scot Moore.

About the Company: Founded by the husband and wife duo of Ruth Virkus and Ben Layne, Freshwater Theatre was born from a love of Twin Cities theatre and a passion to promote this brave and unique theatre community. We at Freshwater Theatre Company believe that art comes from a place. And we believe, unapologetically, that our place is one of the very best. We exist not only to create our own theater, but to facilitate and promote a vision of the Twin Cities as a major exporter of performing arts, producing and promoting quality work from the Midwest, with an eye not only on producing new work, but giving plays of merit new life beyond one world premiere. Freshwater Theatre ...come on in, the water's fine.
