Four Humors announces a new awards ceremony celebrating the Minnesota theater community; The MN Theater Awards. This brand new awards show will be held Monday September 24, 2018 in the Twin Cities, with planning feedback provided by community support. Funding for the event will be provided by an online fundraising campaign pre-selling tickets, which will also help determine the size of the venue to be selected. Two town hall style meetings will be held in the month of May to gather feedback from the theater community about what they would like to see in an awards event. The evening will be produced and hosted by Four Humors, who will be ineligible for any awards.
"Four Humors has been a part of the Twin Cities theater community for 13 years now," says Jason Ballweber, Artistic Director of Four Humors. "Not only have we enjoyed making shows for the community but we have also loved watching the art that has been created, how companies have grown, and how new companies have been created. Sadly, we have also seen many great theaters go away just as ephemerally as the shows they produced. Now that we are no longer the 'young company' (by god we are teenagers now!) we want to celebrate the community and the art that has given us so much. We can't wait to present the MN Theater Awards! It can't be that hard right? It's just like a show but it's an awards ceremony with a lot of people (hopefully) and it's just one night. We got this!"To show support for the creation of a new theater awards event and to help us gauge the size of the venue needed to present the event, theater practitioners and patrons alike can pre-purchase tickets at our Indiegogo link below. This campaign, which runs April 17 - June 15, is the only fundraising vehicle for this endeavor, so the size and scope of the production and venue will be dictated solely by community interest and engagement.
Community planning forums to gather feedback about the event will take place at Four Humor's rehearsal space in the Ivy Arts Building during two consecutive Mondays in May. All theater practitioners (actors, directors, technicians, designers, administrators, volunteers, etc) are welcome to attend and provide input on how best to celebrate the Minnesota Theater community. Interested parties need only attend one meeting, but are welcome at both if they wish. The discussion format and topics will be the same for both meetings.
