People curious about how the NorShor Theatre will look when it's completed, or interested in attaching their name (or that of a loved one) to the theater, are invited to a casual poolside party at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, August 4, at Northland Country Club.
"It's the middle of summer and the weather's nice, so we're inviting everyone outside on August 4 to learn more about how the NorShor Theatre will look outside and inside once it's completed late next year," said Christine Seitz, executive director of the Duluth Playhouse, which is hosting the poolside party. "We hope everyone will join us for grand hors d'oeuvres, specialty cocktails, mingling, music, and fun!"
Cost to attend is $50 per person and people are asked to RVSP by August 1 at either 218/733-7555 or norshor@duluthplayhouse.org.
Also at the poolside party, The Playhouse will launch its 'Take-A-Seat' campaign, which is a way for citizens to participate in the NorShor's restoration in a way that's long lasting and meaningful to their families.
"Theaters around the country identify donors by placing special plaques on seats, and the NorShor is no exception," said Seitz. "People can be identified as an individual, couple, family, by their business, to memorialize a birthday or anniversary, and so on."
Cost per seat is $1,000, which can be paid by check or credit card over two years. Seitz said part of the NorShor's $30.5 million cost to restore and upgrade the historic venue includes about $4 million to be raised by the Duluth Playhouse, which will manage the theater. Those funds will include everything from six-figure naming rights opportunities to smaller contributions from individuals, such as "buying" a seat.
Additional information, including opportunities to contribute online, can be found at www.norshortheatre.com. Or call the Duluth Playhouse at 218/733-7555. All Take-A-Seat campaign donations are tax deductible.
Northland Country Club is located at 3901 E. Superior St.
