Children’s Theatre Company Expands Board of Governors

Children's Theatre Company (CTC) today announced the addition of nine community/business leaders to its Board of Governors. Among the new Board of Governors are:

Fred Deschamps, Carlson Hotels Worldwide - Deschamps is the vice president of Global Revenue Optimization for Carlson Hotels Worldwide. He and his wife, Sarah, are CTC subscribers and have volunteered in support of CTC's Theatre Arts Training program and the theatre's annual Curtain Call Ball.

Lili Hall, KNOCK, inc. - Hall is the founder and CEO of KNOCK, inc., an independent branding, advertising and design agency, which partners with Fortune 500 leaders and entrepreneurs in retail and consumer packaged goods.

Muffy MacMillan, Community Volunteer - MacMillan, previously served on CTC's Board of Governors and is an active community volunteer for numerous nonprofit organizations. She is the mother of five and an avid CTC supporter. MacMillan also serves as a Cargill family Board Member.

Aedie McEvoy, Community Volunteer - McEvoy is a former marketing executive at Giorgio Armani Corporation in New York. She currently serves on the Board of the Boston Children's Museum and is involved in philanthropic activities in Minneapolis, Boston and New York.

Mark Price, M Squared Group - Price is the managing partner and founder of M Squared Group, a consulting firm specializing in costumer analysis and relationship marketing. Price leads client engagement, e-commerce and database marketing and talent acquisition at M Squared Group.

Elizabeth Truesdell Smith, JD, MPH, Allina Hospitals & Clinics - Smith is the senior vice president and general counsel for Allina Hospitals & Clinics, representing leaders and providers in an organization that includes 11 hospitals and more than 85 clinics as well as multiple subsidiaries and joint ventures.

Patricia M. Vayda, Twin Cities Orthodontic Associates - Vayda is in private practice with Twin Cities Orthodontic Associates. Dr. Vayda has served on CTC's Curtain Call Ball committee in 2010 and has been attending CTC productions for many years.

Patrick B. Walsh, Spencer Stuart - Walsh is a consultant in Spencer Stuart's Minneapolis office, where he leads the Industrial Practice for North America. His global industrial clients have included: 3M, Cargill, Fluor, Ecolab, among others.

Leslie Wright, Meet Minneapolis - Wright joined Meet Minneapolis in 2009 as senior vice president of destination sales and services. She is active in a variety of industry organizations and serves on the Board of Directors of the Minneapolis Urban League.

Board Chair Peter Carter, Dorsey & Whitney LLP, will welcome the new Board members this month, with the start of their term. "This is an outstanding group of community volunteers, who all share a passion for the mission of Children's Theatre Company," says Carter.

The addition of these new Board members brings the total number to 52, following a decision to expand Board membership in hopes of expanding member engagement and ties to the community. A new class of Board members will be added twice yearly, in January and September.

Children's Theatre Company (CTC) is the first theatre for young people to win the coveted Tony® Award for Outstanding Regional Theater (2003). Founded in 1965, CTC serves more than 300,000 people annually and is one of the 20 largest theater companies in the nation. CTC is noted for defining worldwide standards for youth theatre with an innovative mix of classic tales, celebrated international productions and challenging new work.

Fred Deschamps is currently vice president of Global Revenue Optimization for Carlson Hotels Worldwide. Deschamps and his team are responsible for revenue optimization both on a global scale and for The Americas, including hotel pricing strategies, demand forecasting, program development and hotel revenue optimization support. Prior to that, Deschamps had an extended career in air transport. He started with Northwest Airlines in 1992 in the international pricing and revenue management areas. After several years of holding positions of increasing responsibility, he and his family decided to head for Tokyo, Japan where he was offered the position of Finance Director for Asia Pacific. After three years, he was promoted to the position of vice president Pacific Operations, Finance and Administration also located in Tokyo, Japan. In 2007, Deschamps and his family returned to headquarters in St Paul, Minn., where he was offered the position of vice president, International Marketing, Sales, Distribution and Loyalty. Shortly thereafter, Northwest Airlines entered into a merger agreement with Delta Air Lines and after two years of helping the transition to the new organization, Deschamps stepped down from his existing position. He holds a master's in business administration degree from the J. L. Kellogg School at Northwestern University and a bachelor's degree in mathematics and economics from Macalester College. He lives in St Paul, Minn., with his wife Sarah and their two daughters Emma and Lily. He and his family have been enthusiastic attendees at and supporters of the CTC since their return from Japan. They have subscribed to every season of the CTC and attended all possible tech rehearsals and events. Sarah has volunteered as a TAT Council member and as a Curtain Call Ball silent auction coordinator. The consistently high quality of the productions and of the people at CTC that create them is an unending source of inspiration and wonder for children and parents alike.
Lili Hall is the founder and CEO of KNOCK, inc., an independent branding, advertising and design agency that partners with Fortune 500 leaders and entrepreneurs in retail and consumer packaged goods. Specializing in creating impactful brand stories and retail experiences, KNOCK is recognized for driving sales and customer loyalty. Hall received her bachelor's degree in international relations from the University of Minnesota. She serves on the board of the Italian Cultural Center of Minneapolis/St. Paul. Hall is married to Mr. Andrea Scarpa and they have two girls, Gabriella (12) and Alessandra (6), who love to attend CTC.

Elizabeth Truesdell Smith, JD, MPH is senior vice president and general counsel for Allina Hospitals & Clinics, representing leaders and providers in an organization that includes 11 hospitals and more than 85 clinics, as well as multiple subsidiaries and joint ventures. Truesdell Smith has served as in-house counsel for Allina since December 2000. Prior to her recent appointment as general counsel, she held the position of vice president of the Allina Law Department medical-legal team. During her tenure at Allina, Truesdell Smith has served as a lead counsel representing Allina's providers, hospitals and business leaders in health law areas including patient safety, enterprise risk management, professional liability litigation, medical staff, patient care and corporate regulatory matters. Before joining Allina, Truesdell Smith practiced as a trial lawyer for eight years with a focus on hospital and health law, medical professional liability and medical products liability litigation defense. Truesdell Smith received her JD from the University of Minnesota Law School, and earned a Master's of Public Health with a health law and bioethics concentration from Boston University School of Public Health. She has worked in biomedical laboratory research at Harvard Medical School and in biomedical ethics at Boston City Hospital, Boston University School of Public Health and the Center for Bioethics at the University of Minnesota. Ms. Truesdell Smith's interdisciplinary background in medicine, public health, bioethics, law and public policy has positioned her to provide unique and patient-centered advice both on the complex legal, bioethics and regulatory matters she oversees as well as in her role on the Executive Leadership Team and as counsel to the Board of Directors. In these roles, she plays a key role in guiding the development and implementation of a mission and values focused care model for the benefit of the community.

Aedie has recently relocated to Wayzata with her husband and their three children. She attended Parson's School of Design in New York.
Mark Price is the managing partner and founder of M Squared Group (hppt://msquaredgroup.com), a consulting firm that specializes in customer analysis and relationship marketing. He is a frequent speaker at conferences as an expert on data-driven marketing and authors articles on the same topic. He is responsible for leading client engagements, e-commerce and database marketing, and talent acquisition at M Squared Group. Price is also a RetailWire Brain Trust Panelist (http://retailwire.com), a blogger at "Cultivating Your Customers" (http://cultivatingyourcustomers.com) and a monthly contributor to the blog of the Minnesota Chapter of the American Marketing Association (http://mnama.org). Prior to founding M Squared Group in 2002, Price was the Practice Leader for Zamba Solutions, focusing on data warehousing, marketing automation and data mining. Price's business experience includes brand management at General Mills and Ralston Purina. Mark has an MBA from the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia and a bachelor's degree from Haverford College. He lives in Eden Prairie, Minnesota.

Patricia (Pat) M. Vayda is currently in private practice in Orthodontics with Twin Cities Orthodontic Associates. Dr. Vayda received her bachelor's degree from Barnard College, Columbia University in 1981. She graduated from the Harvard School of Dental Medicine in 1986, and then continued at Harvard for specialty training in Orthodontics and a doctoral degree in Oral Biology, which was awarded in 1991. Dr. Vayda held a full-time faculty position at the University of Minnesota, School of Dentistry from 1991 through 2007, and she served as the acting Chair of the Department of Diagnostic and Surgical Sciences from 2001 through 2005. Dr. Vayda's clinical practices are located in Edina and Richfield. Dr. Vayda served on the CTC Curtain Call Ball committee for 2010. She lives in Edina with her husband, Dr. Douglas Vayda, and two children Katherine (15) and Amelia (13). The family has been attending CTC performances since the girls were toddlers and feel very fortunate to have the CTC in our community.

Pat Walsh is a consultant in Spencer Stuart's Minneapolis office, bringing to the firm a diverse consulting background and international experience. He leads the Industrial Practice in North America. Since joining Spencer Stuart, Pat has recruited board, general management and financial executives for both public and private equity-backed companies. Industrial clients include leading global companies such as 3M Company, Cargill, Fluor, Ecolab, Solutia and Bunge; he has also served portfolio companies of private equity firms KKR, The Blackstone Group, Madison Dearborn Partners, and Welsh, Carson, Anderson& Stowe. Pat has helped lead CEO searches at Archer Daniels Midland Company, Sunoco, Monsanto Company, Land O'Lakes, CF Industries and Imation. He also has led a number of chief financial officer searches for both public and private equity-backed companies. Pat began his career with Price Waterhouse, where he was a CPA. He joined McKinsey & Company in 1991. At McKinsey, he led engagement teams serving senior management on strategic and organizational issues.

Pat chairs the Audit Committee at Spencer Stuart. He holds a B.S. from Miami University of Ohio and an M.B.A. from the Wharton School.

Leslie Wright was born in Savannah, GA, and grew up in Brooklyn, New York. She is a graduate of Howard University in Washington DC with a Bachelors of Business Administration in Marketing. Leslie began her career in Kansas City, Missouri with Westin Hotels and Resorts in 1984. After completing her management training, she decided to join Marriott International in 1987. Her Marriott career took her to St Louis, Dearborn, Mich., New York City, New Jersey and Orlando, Fla., where she served in various sales and revenue management leadership positions. In 2005, she moved to Minneapolis where she was Director of Sales and Marketing for more than 3 years. In 2009, she decided to change sides of the hospitality industry and joined Meet Minneapolis as their senior vice president of Destination Sales and Services where she oversees the sales and services components of the organization as well as the sales of the Minneapolis Convention Center. She is active in a variety of industry organizations, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority and serves on the Board of Directors of the Minneapolis Urban League. She is married with one son, Julian, who is 9. She resides in Eden Prairie, Minn., and is a proud Eagles fan.
