Gadfly Theatre Productions presents A Talking Penguin, A Polyamorous Wolf, and a Whole Lot of Queer Theatre

Gadfly Theatre Productions, your local queer & feminist theatre company is ecstatic to bring you their FOURTH annual One-Act Geek Festival. The Final Frontier Festival has presented more queer robots, feminist gods, and outspoken horror movie monsters in the past three years than previously were thought to even exist. This year, don't be fooled by the Fairy Tale theme: these are not the stories you fell asleep listening to as a kid. We've got polyamorous wolves, lesbian led fantastical countries, and a talking penguin named Algernon--and that's just to get you warmed up. We've got six fantastic shows, six of our strongest directors to date, and as much whimsy as we can get crammed into the Fox Egg Gallery. For complete show list, please see attached list.

Gadfly believes, among many other things, that LGBTQ+ artists, people of color, and marginalized women are underrepresented in nerdy entertainment and are often mistreated when speaking out about this inequity. Gadfly provides not only a platform for works by those affected by this marginalization to thrive in the genre they love but goes a step further by focusing on the stories and experiences of the underheard within geek subculture. This festival takes what we think we know about fairy tales and spins it on it's head with both content and theme. Never fear though! These six carefully vetted pieces are clearly inspired by the rich world of fairy tales where you're cautioned against venturing into the woods while looking for true love's kiss to break your curse. It's a stunning intersection of subcultures that brings a community of queer nerds and geeky feminists together within a community that so often wants to shut them out.

Tickets to The Final Frontier Festival are sliding scale at the door, or $15 to guarantee your seat through Brown Paper Tickets. Pending availability, no one is turned away for lack of funds. Out of the Woods: A Tale of Red, the Wolf, and the Woodcutter

Out of the Woods is a bisexual, polyamorous retelling of Little Red Riding Hood starring a queer grandma who may also be a magical watch. Come laugh along as Little Red tries to get out of her village by seducing a very Gay Woodcutter. The solution is equally cute and hilarious. Darrin Stewart, Morgen Chang, Joey Schad, Christine Sweet, and Kjertina Whiting star.

Eaten Voices

A child who may or may not be of the moon, a forest full of animals (played by humans), and a Mother who may or may not be a wolf navigate issues of family and identity in Eaten Voices. Natasha Fangmeier,, Casey Johnson, Siri Hammond, Darrin Stewart, and Caspian Werth-Petrik star.

Knights of Glenderdale

In an all female society, two Knights are called on to fight a dragon while the Queen and Vice Queen deal with an issue from a sorceress who isn't as happy in their queer, femme utopia as one would hope. Starring TJ Jacobs and Siri Hammond as the title Knights. Kelly DeHaut, Christy Johnson, and Morgen Chang round out this ensemble cast.

The Sitayana (or "How to Make an Exit")

The Sitayana is a feminist re-telling of The Ramayana from Sita's point of view. Sita transitions from a place of fear and compliance to a resurgent strength that all women can learn from while recounting the magic and horror she has been through. Khadija Siddiqui fresh from 5 Weeks at Pangea World Theatre stars in this show.

Sky's the Limit

Sky is a non-binary knight determined to save the Princess from...whatever the #princesschallenge is about. They just have two big problems: a penguin "sidekick" named Algernon who creates more problems than she solves and the princess? She's not exactly looking for a savior. Ming Hsu, Hannah Jo Stein, and Camille Valentino star in this modern fairy tale.

And the Lights of the Borealis Were Shining

The agreement was simple: Bee would live with Al, a talking polar bear, for a year. In exchange her family would be blessed with incredible wealth. All this comes with a contract, however, and when Bee unknowingly breaks the terms, she is left alone and determined. With the help of strangers, and a bit of magic, Bee embarks on a journey to rediscover the person she thought she knew, and maybe even discover what her own worth is. Zealot Hamm, Addison Sharpe, Caspian Wirth-Petrik, and Lexie Modica make up this all star cast of Twin Cities talent.
