Skylight Music Theatre kicks off 2013 with a delightfully wonky show, HERE'S A HOWDY DO: THE MISCHIEVOUS WORLD OF GILBERT AND SULLIVAN. Written and directed by Dale Gutzman, this no holds barred look at Gilbert and Sullivan plays December 31 through January 13 in the Studio Theatre at the Broadway Theatre Center (158 N. Broadway, Milwaukee WI).

A musical revue unlike any other, Skylight, Dale Gutzman and Gilbert & Sullivan collide for a brand new and delightfully zany look at the world of G & S. Celebrating the genius of Gilbert and Sullivan, this unabashedly silly show features not only pieces the topsy-turvy duo wrote together, but separately as well. Presenting the first ever Five Minute Mikado (with a dance!), uncovering the "G&S Formula" of how they constructed their operas and allowing audiences (perhaps for the first time ever) to actually turn on their cell phones for part of the show -this evening is a Howdy Do Indeed!

HERE'S A HOWDY DO marks Dale Gutzman's 25th show at Skylight and an ever growing tradition for the theatre's rich history of G&S shows. Since it's founding in 1959 with an impromptu performance of the music of Gilbert and Sullivan, Skylight has held on to its roots and produced 55 G&S shows over the past 54 years. Gutzman last wrote and directed the sold out revue AN EVENING WITH GILBERT AND SULLIVAN in 2010, but wants audiences to know to expect something entirely different this time around:

"This show is about what G&S do to us, rather than about their lives. It's about how they get under our skin, how we recall certain memories with them and about how we share the joys of love and laughter through them. It's got something old, something new, something borrowed and a little something blue. It's almost like we're married to Gilbert and Sullivan with all that implies!" says Dale Gutzman.
