Renaissance Theaterworks (RTW) is collaborating with the Milwaukee VA Womens Health Program to present a free play reading of CENSORED ON FINAL APPROACH by Phylis Ravel. Suzan Fete and Jennifer Rupp will be Co-Directing this reading that will feature women veterans, Milwaukee VA staff and friends. One day only: April 26, 2013, at the Milwaukee VA Medical Center, 5000 W. National Ave., Recreation Hall, room 3435. The readings are at 2 pm and 6:30 pm, and are free and open to the public. Talkbacks will follow the readings.
CENSORED ON FINAL APPROACH is a historically accurate play about the W.A.S.P.s (Women Army Service Pilots) of WWII and their heroic contribution to the war effort. The public reading of this play is to honor our women Veterans. RTW dedicates this effort in memory of the playwright and former head of the Theatre Arts Program at Marquette University, Phylis Ravel, for giving voice to these heroes of WWII.
Jennifer Rupp, RTW's Co-Founder and Co-Artistic Director, and Dr. Jill Feldman, the Women's Resource Center Program Manager for the VA, are working closely on this collaboration together. Jennifer reached out to Jill with an interest in possible ways RTW might provide a valuable contribution to the Women Veterans Program and Jill was on board immediately. "It's a good way for patients to shine or try new things," Feldman said. "It's fun." There has been a lot of interest from veterans and staff who would like to participate in the reading, there are two full casts each with their own performance. "(The story) tells the same obstacles and dangers that women soldiers must endure today" says Rupp, "and it connects them to a long and glorious history of women warriors." This reading is free and open to the public.
