Skylight Music Theatre is now presenting the world premiere of A ROCKIN’ MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, onstage through April 26 as the company closes its 66th season. Check out photos of the production.
The production reimagines William Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream with a new book, score, and lyrics by Eric Svejcar and Artistic Director Michael Unger. The adaptation incorporates original text set to music alongside newly composed material, reshaping the story with a contemporary, high-energy approach.
Critical response has highlighted the production’s performances, design, and musical storytelling, with reviews noting its reinterpretation of the classic and its accessibility for modern audiences. The staging features an ensemble cast of 28 performers, with an emphasis on integrated music, movement, and visual design.
The production caps a record-setting season for Skylight Music Theatre. Earlier in the season, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat became one of the highest-selling productions in the company’s history, while Fiddler on the Roof and Amadeus also concluded with sold-out closing weekends.
“Our 66th season has been a testament to the theatrical magic that can be created by combining ingenuity, bold ideas, remarkably creative artists, and our audiences,” said Unger.
Skylight has also announced its upcoming 2026–27 season, which will include productions of Gypsy, Big: The Musical, Dear Evan Hansen, A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder, and Rock of Ages.
