Milwaukee Bucks star power forward John Henson has partnered with the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee's (UWM) Peck School of the Arts to create films that showcase Henson's passion for the city that he now calls home.
Over the course of the past year, UWM students produced, directed and edited two videos that feature Henson and Milwaukee and provide a unique glimpse into why Henson finds Brew City special. The first video shows Henson, an avid and accomplished topwater fisherman, attempting a new hobby as he visits an Orvis retail location to learn about fly fishing. In the other film, Henson dribbles around Milwaukee and showcases the area's landmarks and sights. UWM will release the videos today.
The fly fishing video has earned recognition and will premiere at the prestigious 2014 Cannes International Film Festival's Short Film Corner. In conjunction with UWM, Henson will donate a scholarship to the Peck School of the Arts and help the emerging student filmmakers travel to France for the film festival to see their work on display.
"I am honored to have partnered with the UWM Peck School of the Arts and these very talented young filmmakers," said Henson. "It was fun to showcase my favorite aspects of Milwaukee and then to be recognized by Cannes is beyond my wildest expectations. "
On Friday, April 11, the filmmaker students will be honored at the Bucks game as a part of UWM night. Tickets for Friday's Bucks game can be purchased through the Bucks Ticket office or online. There are no discounts for students or alumni for this game, however, UWM will be prominently featured that evening as the main sponsor. Guests will be treated to special performances from the UWM Dance Team and Pounce as well as a "Welcome to UWM" on the jumbotron.
