The sizzling Tony Award-winning musical In the Heights by Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda has become the bestselling musical in Milwaukee Repertory Theater history, surpassing the record held by Ragtime in the 2013/14 Season. Now running through October 28, 2018 in the Quadracci Powerhouse, In the Heights is a musical filled with hip-hop beats, salsa and Latin soul featuring a cast of more than 20 of the country's most talented Latinx performers.
"I am thrilled Milwaukee is responding so enthusiastically to our production of In the Heights," said Artistic Director Mark Clements. "Lin-Manuel Miranda's unique blend of music and storytelling allows us to share a story that is reflective of our community's rich diversity, all the while delivering a truly entertaining night of theater that will stick with you long after you've left the Quadracci Powerhouse."
In the Heights is a hit among critics as well, OnMilwaukee.com raves, "In the Heights proves that not only had Lin-Manuel Miranda rightfully earned the reputation of musical genius before Hamilton, but that, to no one's surprise, The Rep puts on a production as vibrant as what you'd find on The Great White Way." Shepherd Express thinks, "Milwaukee Repertory Theater captures the life-energy of Miranda's musical in a vibrant production whose sharp-elbowed kinetics, drawn from urban dance, simmers down to allow emotional introspection amidst the bustle." And Ryan Jay Reviews exclaims, "Among the greatest productions ever mounted at Milwaukee Rep, In the Heights soars! The cast brings NYC to life with top-notch voices, passion, and intensity. It's must-see theater!"
In the Heights is presented by The Plunkett Family Foundation and sponsored by BMO Harris Bank with Executive Producers Gina and Eric Peter and Melanie and Steve Booth. The Rep is sponsored in part by the United Performing Arts Fund. In the Heights is a co-production with Seattle Repertory Theater and Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park.
