GUARDS AT THE TAJ Begins At Milwaukee Rep Today ImageMilwaukee Repertory Theater's Stiemke Studio Season opens with the gripping historical drama Guards at the Taj by Pulitzer Prize finalist Rajiv Joseph (Bengal Tiger at the Baghdad Zoo) starring Owais Ahmed (The Rep's The Invisible Hand) as Babur and Yousof Sultani (Chicago Shakespeare's Othello) as Hamayun this September 26 - November 4, 2018.

Directed by Rep Associate Artistic Director Brent Hazelton (Our Town, McGuire) it features set design by Scott Davis (Guys and Dolls, The Royale), costume design by Alison Siple (The Royale), lighting design by Noele Stollmack (McGuire), and sound design by Barry G. Funderburg (A Christmas Carol).

Written by Pulitzer Prize finalist Rajiv Joseph and set in 1648 India, this "ingenious piece of theater" (Washington Post) explores the friendship of two imperial guards. At dawn, the glorious Taj Mahal will be unveiled. For the two guards assigned to protect the palace, morning brings them an unspeakable task that will shake their faith in God, the empire and their lifelong friendship. This boldly funny and deeply moving play examines the meaning of true beauty and the cost of transcendence in a world that confuses the value of both.

Guards at the Taj is presented by Ed Seaberg & Patrick Smith and Four-Four Foundation, Inc. with Executive Producer Robert Burrell. The Rep is sponsored in part by the United Performing Arts Fund.

Guards at the Taj runs September 26 - November 4, 2018 in the Stiemke Studio. Opening night is set for Friday, September 28 at 8pm. Purchase tickets at www.MilwaukeeRep.com, by calling the Ticket Office at 414-224-9490 or in person at 108 E. Wells Street in downtown Milwaukee.
