First Stage Children's Theater will hold auditions for its first-ever Glee Club on Saturday, October 30th, 2010. As part of its Theater Academy, First Stage will offer Glee Club on Saturday afternoons beginning in January of 2011 at the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center. Following an audition process, students will learn to sing, dance and act in a high-energy musical moment. The inaugural class will culminate its experience with a performance this spring.
"For Academy students, Glee Club will fill a need," said Academy Director John Maclay. "For some time now, we have wanted to add a more intense musical theater class to our School Year Academy offering. Like Organized Chaos, a class for advanced improv students, and Young Company, a class for advanced acting students, Glee Club will provide training for students seeking a high-end swing choir experience."
In an effort to create a unique and collaborative group, Glee Club hopes to attract students from throughout southeastern Wisconsin. "The Midwest boasts a large number of show and swing choirs, but that is not the case for Milwaukee, even though we have no shortage of young talent. So we will appeal to those kids who carry that triple threat of talent - the ability to simultaneously sing, dance, and act," said Glee Club Instructor Thomas Weissgerber.
Auditions for interested students in grades 7-12 will be held on Saturday, October 30th, 2010 at the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center, located at 325 West Walnut Street in Milwaukee.
