A free screening of the documentary Dark Side of the Full Moon will be held on Oct. 10 at Marquette University's Cudahy Hall, Room 001, 1313 W. Wisconsin Ave.

The Marquette University Department of Counselor Education and Counseling Psychology, and the Moms Mental Health Initiative are sponsoring the screening and a panel discussion.

The itinerary includes check-in and networking from 6:15 p.m. to 6:45 p.m., screening of the movie from 6:45 p.m. to 8 p.m., and the panel discussion from 8 p.m. to 8:45 p.m.

The documentary delves into maternal mental health in the United States through the stories of women who have had perinatal mood disorders. It reveals a disconnect among those in the medical community about how to screen, refer and treat the 1.3 million mothers affected each year.

The film highlights relevant policy, research and treatment through interviews with survivors, family members, therapists, psychologists, doctors, scientists, nurses, midwives, researchers, lawyers and scholars.

The panel discussion features Dr. Lisa M. Edwards, an associate professor in counselor education and counseling psychology at Marquette; Christina L. Wichman, doctor of osteopathic medicine; Rose Eichenhofer, licensed clinical social worker and a marriage and family therapist; Sarah Ornst Bloomquist, certified life coach and family life educator; and Becky Schroeder, a former mental health counselor with a master's degree in marriage and family therapy. Bloomquist and Schroeder are co-founders of the Moms Mental Health Initiative.
