All In Productions, a Milwaukee-based theatre company dedicated to working primarily with, and providing paying opportunities to, local and homegrown artists to produce professional quality theatre, announced its next production will be Hedwig and the Angry Inch, running at Next Act Theatre from September 6 to 15.
Hedwig and the Angry Inch is a rock musical about fictional transgender East German rocker Hedwig Robinson and her band. It features a book by John Cameron Mitchell with music and lyrics by Stephen Trask. Hedwig tells her life story (from botched sex change operation to self acceptance) through her music throughout the show, which maintains a "rock concert" atmosphere.
"We're excited to bring this powerhouse show to Milwaukee, where it has rarely been staged," said Robby McGhee, Artistic Director of All In Productions and director of Hedwig. "We hope to tell Hedwig's story in a genuine way while transporting the audience into an energetic rock show."
This will be the second show of All In Productions' fourth season, titled DISCOVERIES. McGhee has previously directed The Wild Party, Dogfight and The Last Five Years with the company. The show features Brett Sweeney as Hedwig and Lydia Eiche as Yitzhak, both of whom are making their AIP debuts.
Also on the production team for the show: Music Director Paula Foley Tillen (first production with All In Productions), Costume Designer Lyn Kream (first production with AIP), Lighting Designer Mike Van Dreser (most recently worked on Next to Normal), Sound Designer Derek Buckles (most recently worked on the Women's Work fundraiser), Set Designer Chris Budish (first production with AIP), and Stage Manager Allison Kasprovich (previously worked on Songs for a New World).
"This is a rare theatergoing experience for Milwaukee audiences, and a tremendously talented group of people taking it on," said McGhee. "We can't wait to get started."
Shows are September 6 through 15 at Next Act Theatre. Tickets are now available at www.nextact.org.
