The Birmingham Village Players production of The Lifespan of a Fact tells a story that could be straight out of todays headlines as a determined fact-checker goes head-to-head with a famous author in a thought-provoking but comedic battle royale. The play is based on an actual event that was featured in a book written by John DAgata and Jim Fingal, the real-life author and fact-checker. The play (written by Jeremy Kareken & David Murrell and Gordon Farrell) features a fast-paced war of words that examines what is fact, what is fiction, and does it really matter if the future of the magazine is on the line. Joe Vercellone of Birmingham plays author John DAgata and Greg Ruvolo of Lathrup Village plays fact checker Jim Fingal. Bloomfield Hills resident Sue Chekaway is Emily Penrose, the magazine editor who was based on multiple people rather than a single individual. The conflict between the characters begins over a deeply moving essay about the death by suicide of a teenage boy. Although it is not the subject of the play, audience members should be aware that the topic of teen-aged suicide is discussed multiple times in this production. The show will be performed Friday and Saturday Nov 5, 6, 12, 13, 19, and 20 at 8pm and Sunday Nov 7,14, and 21 at 2pm at the Birmingham Village Players Playhouse, 34660 Woodward Avenue in Birmingham, MI. Tickets are $20.00 (plus a $1.00 processing fee for each ticket order) and are available online at www.birminghamvillageplayers.com or by calling the theater box office at 248-644-2075.
