Arthur Miller’s award-winning play depicts the dark and disturbing events of the 1692 Salem Witch Trials. When a group of teenage girls begin accusing their neighbors of witchcraft, the entire town is soon swept up in an inferno of passion, paranoia, and hysteria. Written in response to McCarthyism in the 1940’s and 50’s, of which Miller was a victim, The Crucible offers commentary on the consequences of intolerance and fear that is as topical as ever.
