Livonia Community Theatre presents Ten November, a timely and evocative drama honoring the legacy of the Edmund Fitzgerald. The play was written by Minnesota playwright Steven Dietz, with music composed by Eric Peltoniemi.
Ten November recounts the tragedy of the Edmund Fitzgerald by centering the story on the shared humanity of all involved, using nine actors and three singers to illustrate themes of resilience, courage, fear, and hope—as well as the power of Superior itself.
Director Joe Johnston says, “As we journey through the memories, stories, and aftermath surrounding the Edmund Fitzgerald, we are reminded of the thin line that exists between being in control and being out of control. There were no witnesses to this tragedy, and no survivors. The final moments of the Fitz are by definition a fiction, a fiction that we have taken great pains to explore and present with passion and sympathy. We share this play not to rehash the past but to focus on the present. There are over a hundred freighters navigating the Great Lakes at this very moment, each crewed by people like us, with their own stories, fears, hopes, and dreams.”
