The five-time Tony Award-Winning Matilda the Musical will open the Civics 91st season on September 20th. Based on the beloved novel and twisted genius of Roald Dahl, Matilda the Musical is the story of an extraordinary girl who, armed with a vivid imagination and a sharp mind, dares to take a stand and change her own destiny! It is an uplifting tale of empowerment told from the perspective ofchildren! (Revolting Children is just one of the production numbers audiences will enjoy!)The Civic is thrilled to announce its cast has not one but THREE girls to play Matilda, along 18 youth in supporting roles to thrill audiences of all ages. Chloe Davis, Lily McVerry and Marissa Toweson will share the role of Matilda on alternating nights. And James Ilsley, a performer with the Civic in the late 1990s, returned to Kalamazoo from North Carolina specifically to audition for the role of Miss Trunchbull. Full of catchy songs and exciting dance numbers, Matilda will captivate audiences with its energetic, youthful cast and the story of a courageous little girl with an extraordinary personality. Matilda the Musical celebrates the love of reading and learning, the wonder of childhood, and the great power of young people. Matilda the Musical plays in the Civic Auditorium September 20, 27, and October 4 at 7:30 pm with matinees on Saturdays and Sundays September 21, 22, 28, 29 and October 5 and 6 at 2:00 pm.
