Mid-Michigan's award-winning professional theatre company, Williamston Theatre, located at 122 S. Putnam Street in downtown Williamston, kicks off Lucky Season 13 with the Michigan Premiere of Silent Sky by Lauren Gunderson. Performances for this stunningly beautiful play begin Thursday, September 20 and run through Sunday, October 21. Tickets are now on sale.
Astonishing discoveries await Henrietta Leavitt as she maps distant stars in galaxies beyond our own. This brilliant, headstrong pioneer must struggle, though, for recognition in the man's world of turn-of-the-century astronomy. In this exquisite blend of science, history, family ties, and fragile love, a passionate young woman must map her own passage through a society determined to keep a woman in her place. A stunningly beautiful tale, based on the true story and science of early 20th century female "computers" at Harvard Observatory.
The cast of Silent Sky consists of two newcomers to the Williamston stage, Katherine Banks and Annie Dilworth, along with Sarab Kamoo (boom, Panache), Michael Lopetrone (Out of Orbit, Beau Jest) and Karen Sheridan (Memoir, Chapatti). Williamston Theatre's Artistic Director, Tony Caselli (Doublewide, Beau Jest), is the Director of Silent Sky. The production team includes Scenic Design by Kirk Domer (Doublewide, Our Lady of Poison), Lighting Design by Daniel Huston (The Lion in Winter), Costume Design by Karen Kangas-Preston (Memoir, Our Lady of Poison), Sound Design by Quintessa Gallinat (Doublewide, The Taming), Props Design by Michelle Raymond (Memoir, Doublewide) and Projections Design by Bradley Branam. The Stage Manager is Stefanie Din (Doublewide, Beau Jest).
Performances for Silent Sky will run from September 20 through October 21 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at eight o'clock and Sunday afternoons at two o'clock. Starting September 29th three o'clock performance will be added to the remaining Saturdays of the run. The first four performances of Silent Sky, September 20 -23, are Preview performances where audience members will have the opportunity to take part in the process of creating a show by participating in a talkback session with the director following each performance.
