Williamston Theatre Kicks Off its New Season with New Play: PULP

Williamston Theatre will kick off its Eleventh Season with Pulp, a brand new play by Michigan Playwright Joseph Zettelmaier and part of the National New Play Network's Rolling World Premiere program. Performances begin Thursday, September 22 and run through Sunday, October 23. Tickets for this who-dun-it-science-fiction caper are now on sale.

Pulp's previews start on Thursday, September 22. During the first four Previews audience members will have the opportunity to take part in the process of creating a show by participating in a talkback session with the director following each performance. The Official Opening Night is Friday, September 30 with the show scheduled to run through Sunday, October 23. Performances will run Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at eight o'clock and Sunday matinees at two o'clock with additional three o'clock matinees on Saturdays starting October 1. The Conversation Sunday for Pulp is Sunday, October 16.

Los Angeles, 1933. The world of pulp fiction is turned upside down when a literary agent is gruesomely murdered. The four suspects: his remaining clients, all writers for different pulp magazines. Private Investigator Frank Ellery dives into the mystery, and his world turns upside down as life begins to imitate literature in this who-dun-it-science-fiction caper.

Joseph Zettelmaier is a Michigan playwright and four-time nominee for the Steinberg/American Theatre Critics Association Award for best new play, first in 2006 for All Childish Things, then in 2007 for Language Lessons, in 2010 for It Came From Mars and in 2012 for Dead Man's Shoes. He returns to Williamston, which premiered his productions of Flyover USA, It Came from Mars, And the Creek Don't Rise, Ebenezer, Dead Man's Shoes, The Gravedigger, and The Decade Dance. His plays The Stillness Between Breaths and It Came From Mars were selected to appear in the National New Play Network's Festival of New Plays. It Came From Mars was a recipient of 2009's Edgerton Foundation New American Play Award. Dead Man's Shoes received the same award in 2011. Joseph is an adjunct lecturer at Eastern Michigan University and Schoolcraft College, where he teaches a variety of theatre courses. He is also an Artistic Associate at First Folio Theatre in Illinois.

The cast of Pulp consists of Joe Bailey, Mark Colson (Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol, The Gravedigger), Aral GribbleLepard (The Woman in Black, Tuna Does Vegas), Alysia Kolascz (The Gravedigger, Ebenezer) and (Rounding Third, Outside Mullingar). The Director is Tony Caselli (Too Much, Too Much, Too Many, Rounding Third). The production team includes Set Design by Matthew Imhoff (Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol, Sirend), Lighting Design by Shannon Schweitzer (Jacob Marley's Christmas Carol, Rounding Third), Costume Design by Elspeth Williams, Sound Design by Julia Garlotte (The Decade Dance, Old Love), Props Design by Michelle Raymond (Summer Retreat, The Decade Dance) and Fight Choreography by Christina Traister. The Stage Manager is Stefanie Din (The Decade Dance, Chapatti).

Tickets are Pay-What-You-Can for the Preview on Thursday, September 22. Remaining Preview tickets are still $15.00! We have raised ticket prices by $2 for performances. Starting Opening Night, Adult tickets prices are now $30.00 for Friday and Saturday evenings, $27.00 for Saturday and Sunday matinees and $25.00 for Thursday evenings. Senior citizens (65 and older) and members of the Military receive a $2 discount on all tickets. Student tickets (with a valid student ID) remain $10 for all performances. Discounts are also available for groups of 10 or more (booked at least 1 week in advance through the Box Office). Tickets can be purchased Tuesday - Friday from 12-6pm by calling (517) 655-SHOW (7469) or by visiting the Box Office and ordered on-line up until 24 hours prior to the performance by visiting our website www.williamstontheatre.org.

The Williamston Theatre is a not-for-profit, professional Live Theatre company, dedicated to producing plays that excite, engage and entertain our audiences. The theatre opened its doors in 2006, is the winner of a 2014 National Theatre Company Grant from The American Theatre Wing and has received a number of local awards including the 2008 Robert Busby Award for extraordinary overall contribution to theatre in the Greater Lansing Area.
