Mid-Michigan's award winning professional theatre company, Williamston Theatre, located at 122 S. Putnam Street in downtown Williamston, kicks off Season Twelve with The Taming by Lauren Gunderson. Performances for this raucous, all female "power-play" begin Thursday, September 21 and run through Sunday, October 22. Tickets go on sale Tuesday, September 5 at Noon.
Tweetering, pandashrews, and undying giddiness for James Madison - what else would you expect to find at a Miss AmErica Pageant? The Taming is a hilarious, raucous, all-female "power-play," in which Miss Georgia has political aspirations to match her beauty pageant ambitions. All she needs to revolutionize the American government is the help of one ultra-conservative senator's aide on the cusp of a career breakthrough, and one bleeding-heart liberal blogger who will do anything for her cause. Here's lookin' at you, America! (Contains Adult Content.)
The cast of The Taming consists of two newcomers to the Williamston stage, Angela Dawe and Melissa Mercieca, along with Alysia Kolascz, who appeared most recently in last season's production of Pulp. Lynn Lammers (Chapatti, The Best Brothers) returns to Williamston as the Director for The Taming. The production team includes Scenic Design by Elspeth Williams (A Painted Window, Too Much, Too Much, Too Many), Lighting Design by Brian Scruggs (Over the River and Through the Woods), Costume Design by Holly Iler (Murder for Two, 1984), Sound Design by Quintessa Gallinat (The Nerd, Frankie and Johnny in the Clare de Lune) and Props Design by Michelle Raymond (Murder for Two, 1984). The Stage Manager is Stefanie Din (A Painted Window, The Nerd).
Performances for The Taming will run from September 21 through October 22 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings at eight o'clock and Sunday afternoons at two o'clock. Starting September 30th three o'clock performance will be added to the remaining Saturdays of the run. The first four performances of The Taming, September 22 -24, are Preview performances where audience members will have the opportunity to take part in the process of creating a show by participating in a talkback session with the director following each performance.
