Wild Swan Theater presents Jack and the Beanstalk, March 22-25 at Towsley Auditorium, Washtenaw Community College.

This lively rendition of a classic tale presents a humorous giant, appropriate for young audiences. In Wild Swan's version, Jack's journey up the fantastical beanstalk not only leads to his encounter with a very silly giant but to the rescue of his long lost father as well.

Jack and his mother have fallen on hard times, following the mysterious disappearance of Jack's father. With no money under the mattress and no food in the larder, Jack must sell the family cow, Milky White. His adventures begin when a mysterious stranger convinces him to sell the cow for 5 magic beans. When Jack's mother, in despair, throws the beans out the window, their life changes abruptly as a huge beanstalk begins to grow by leaps and bounds outside their cottage window. In Wild Swan's version, Jack's excursions up the fantastical beanstalk not only lead to his well-known encounters with a very silly giant but to the rescue of his long lost father as well.

Longtime actors Sandy Ryder, Michelle Trame Lanzi, and Jeremy Salvatori portray the characters in this production. Lorrie Gunn provides the music on both harp and violin. Erin Parrish and Jamie Fidler provide the American Sign Language interpreting. Toni Auletti has designed the charming settings and Rebecca Valentino has constructed the inventive props. Backstage touch tours and audio-description are available for blind theater patrons. These services are free but must be reserved by calling (734) 995-0530.

Wild Swan Theater is dedicated to producing professional children's theater of the highest artistic quality and to making that theater accessible to low income, minority and disabled children through low ticket prices and innovative outreach programs.
