Water Works Theatre Company will open the ninth annual Shakespeare In The Park in Royal Oak with Macbeth July 23rd for a three week run in Starr Jaycee Park. Tickets ($15) are available online at www.waterworkstheatre.com and one hour prior to performances at the Starr Jacyee Park box office located at 1101 West 13 Mile Road, Royal Oak MI 48073.
The outdoor setting in the woods of Starr Jaycee Park compliments the play's dramatic and wicked story. "Shakespeare is best heard outdoors," states director Sara Cathryn Wolf ( St. Clair Shores ), "so much of Macbeth is on the battlefield, or the hearth; the wood itself appears to have a life of its' own. It's wonderful to have the opportunity to have nature play a part in the show, particularly since nature, i.e. the nature of man and the natural world, figure so prominently in it." A wonderful cast of 17 talented professional and emerging professional actors will literally tackle this action-packed show starring Water Works Artistic Director, and professional Actor's Equity Association (AEA) member Jeff Thomakos in the role of Macbeth. AEA actor Aphrodite Nikolovski will portray the diabolical Lady Macbeth, and Water Works veteran Michael Brian Ogden, also an AEA actor (and author of the recent play "Bleeding Red" at the Purple Rose Theatre ) will return to Water Works as Macbeth's nemesis, Macduff.
Macbeth will be performed Thursday - Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 7pm July 23 - August 9 in Starr Jaycee Park, 1101 West 13 Mile Rd, Royal Oak MI 48073. All tickets ($15) are general admission and good for any show and are available online at www.waterworsktheatre.com or one hour prior to show time at the park box office. Free parking is available at Starr Jaycee Park and patrons are encouraged to bring their favorite lawn chair for Water Works' custom-built open air theatre. Bleacher seating and blanket areas will also be available. Sunday performances at 7pm are Kids FREE Sundays sponsored by Target where up to two children (under 18) are admitted free with the purchase of an adult ticket.
This year, Shakespeare In The Park in Royal Oak will also feature The Commedia Robin Hood, by Lane Riosley. With lots of laughs and only 55 minutes in length, Robin Hood is appropriate for children of ALL ages.
