Bridget is headed for law school in New York, where her favorite grandmother lives. Her Nana is thrilled to have Bridget stay for a bit-what grandmother wouldn't be?-except that it's jeopardizing Nana's big secret.
"Nana's Naughty Knickers" runs Jan. 10 through Feb. 4 at Meadow Brook Theatre on the campus of Oakland University in Rochester.
Everyone can use a little extra money, including retirees. It's easy to start a home business; it's harder to make it successful. Nana has found the secret recipe, and it involves lace and satin. But Nana's living in one of those legendary rent-controlled apartments, and her secret, unlicensed boutique could land her in a heap of trouble. Most grandkids mow the lawn or carry the groceries. Can Bridget help Nana juggle the police and landlord?
"It's a mile-a-minute comedy," said Travis W. Walter, MBT artistic director. "'Nana's Naughty Knickers' reminded me of one of those classic comedies from the 1940s. I thought it was just the thing for the MBT audiences in the middle of winter."
Nana Sylvia Charles is played by Mary Robin Roth, with Franny Kromminga appearing as her granddaughter, Bridget. Trudy Mason is Nana's friend, Vera. Dale White is beat cop Tom, with Phil Powers appearing as landlord, Mr. Schmidt. The rest of the cast includes Cheryl Turski (as Heather VanPree), Debbie Williams (as Clair), and Brendan Lindberg and Sara Kmiec.
"Nana's Naughty Knickers" is directed by Travis W. Walter. Terry W. Carpenter is the stage manager with set design by Brian Kessler, costume design by Corey Collins, light design by Reid G. Johnson and sound design by Mike Duncan.
