The University Musical Society (UMS) will present a dramatic reading of Arthur Miller's Death of a Salesman, featuring stage and screen actor Alec Baldwin in the lead role of Willy Loman on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at 8 pm in Ann Abor's Power Center (121 Fletcher St). Baldwin will perform alongside student and faculty actors and directors from the University of Michigan's Department of Theatre & Drama. The reading will mark Baldwin's first time in the role. The performance is currently sold out, but those interested in attending can call the UMS Ticket Office at 734.764.2538 to ask to be put on an interest list.

In addition to Alec Baldwin, the cast includes Priscilla Lindsay, Eva Rosenwald, Leigh Woods, Alex Leydenfrost, and students from the U-M Department of Theatre & Drama. Daniel Cantor, U-M associate professor of theatre & drama, will direct. Other students from U-M's departments of Theatre & Drama and Musical Theatre will have the opportunity to interact with Baldwin at a private reception and Q&A session.

"It's one of our greatest pleasures to bring distinguished artists to the University of Michigan and create opportunities for them to interact with and perform alongside the students on campus," said UMS president Matthew VanBesien. "These unique and engaging experiences leave a lasting impression on students and help to inspire future generations of artists."

Playwright Arthur Miller graduated from the University of Michigan in 1938. A decade later, Death of a Salesman premiered on Broadway and went on to win both the 1949 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and the Tony Award for Best Play.

UMS Student Experiences, including opportunities such as this to learn from and perform side-by-side with professional artists, are made possible through a generous leadership gift from UMS National Council Co-Chair Rachel Bendit (U-M BA '97) and University of Michigan Regent Mark Bernstein (U-M BA '93, JD and MBA '96).

A recipient of the 2014 National Medal of Arts, UMS (also known as the University Musical Society) contributes to a vibrant cultural community by connecting audiences with performing artists from around the world in uncommon and engaging experiences. One of the oldest performing arts presenters in the country, UMS is an independent non-profit organization affiliated with U-M, presenting over 70 music, theater, and dance performances by professional touring artists each season, along with over 100 free educational activities. UMS is committed to bold artistic leadership, engaged learning through the arts, and access and inclusiveness. Since 1990, the organization has co-commissioned and supported the production of nearly 80 new or reimagined works. Matthew VanBesien became the organization's seventh president in July 2017.
