Amadeus

A film directed by Miloš Forman
Presented with live music featuring the Detroit Symphony Orchestra
and the UMS Choral Union
Jeffrey Schindler, conductor
Louis Nagel, piano

Sunday, September 15 // 2 pm
Hill Auditorium

The Detroit Symphony Orchestra and UMS Choral Union will perform the live score for a screening of the eight-time Acadamy Award-winning 1984 motion picture classic Amadeus.

The film tells the story of Vienna court composer, Antonio Salieri and the envy that consumes him upon discovering that the divine musical gifts he has so longed for all his life have been bestowed on a bawdy, vulgar, and impish young composer, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (played by Plymouth, Michigan native Tom Hulce). Salieri's envy fuels his plot to destroy the man, though it simultaneously leaves him unable to tear himself away from the genius of Mozart's music.

The score contains some of Mozart's greatest works, including The Magic Flute, his Symphony No. 25, Don Giovanni, The Marriage of Figaro, and his famous Requiem.

Amadeus was named one of the American Film Institute's best 100 movies of the 20th century and remains one of the most beloved films of all time.

Rated PG, 180 minutes (including intermission).

All About Eve

National Theatre, London HD Broadcast
By Joseph L. Mankiewicz
Adapted for the stage and directed by Ivo van Hove

Sunday, September 22 // 7 pm
Michigan Theater

Gillian Anderson (X-Files) and Lily James (Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again!) star in All About Eve, the story of Margo Channing. A legend and true star of the theater, the spotlight is hers and always has been. But now there's Eve, her biggest fan, a golden girl who insinuates herself into Margo's life and circle of friends.

Lifting the curtain on a world of jealousy and ambition, this new production from one of the world's most innovative theater directors, Ivo van Hove, explores our fascination with celebrity, youth, and identity, and why they never seem to get old.

Presented by Sonia Friedman Productions and Fox Stage Productions. Co-presented with the Michigan Theater.
